LAS VEGAS – Edgar Chairez met the media Saturday after his win over Bruno Silva at UFC Fight Night 278.
Chairez (14-6 MMA, 4-2 UFC) submitted Silva (15-9-2 MMA, 5-6 UFC) with a slick rear-naked choke in the first round on the prelims at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas. The flyweight picked up a $100,000 Performance of the Night bonus with the win, which was his third straight.
Chairez’s three wins in a row over the past 15 months or so have come on the heels of a decision loss to Joshua Van in September 2024. Van went on to win the flyweight title in an upset of Alexandre Pantoja and defended the belt against Tatsuro Taira a month ago.

But Chairez thinks on his current run, he would give Van a much different fight than their first meeting.
“It was a tough fight. It was very, very close. It could have been different, but there’s no ‘could have’,” Chairez said at his post-fight news conference. “He is a good champin.n Obviously, he took it that day. He’s been a good champion so far, a very good fighter. My moment will come, and you will see that.
“But I’ll tell you: From what you’re seeing right now, you can get a feel for what would be with Van-Chairez 2 — which will come one day.”
