Elite safety Chance Gilbert names top four schools

by

Four-star Sharpsburg (Ga.) safety Chance Gilbert is ready to take the next step in his recruitment.

On Tuesday, the elite prospect named his top four schools, telling Rivals he is down to Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and Georgia Tech. Earlier this month, he told our own Chad Simmons that those schools were ‘standing out’ the most in his recruitment.

And now he has officially named them as his top four. He chose that group over more than 20 other Power 4 offers, but is looking to narrow things down this spring. Gilbert doesn’t plan to announce his commitment until after he has taken official visits to each school.

“It’s really about if I love the environment and how much I can grow as a person and a player,” he told Simmons. “That’s what I’m focusing on. Once I take my official visits, that’s when things will start to come together.”

The 6-foot-1, 170-pounder is the No. 33 overall prospect in the 2027 class, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, an equally weighted average that utilizes all three major recruiting services. He also ranks as the country’s No. 3 safety and the No. 2 recruit in Georgia.

Gilbert talks Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, and Georgia Tech

Each program stands out for different reasons, but all have something in common: the people and the relationships he has built.

“The people are great, and they’re all close by too, so I like that. What really stands out is how comfortable I am around everyone. I can see myself at any of those schools,” he told Simmons.

In their interview, he also broke down what makes each school a contender.

Alabama: “I’ve been there twice and I really like how you can get developed there. I love the staff, the fans, and I have family in Alabama, so that helps. It’s a great place.”

Clemson: “I love the faith part of it. I’m a Christian, so how Dabo Swinney does things really stands out to me. Faith is a big thing for me. I like the culture and the people there a lot.”

Georgia: “I’ve been to Georgia a few times and it’s a great place. They develop players, it’s close to home, and the atmosphere is great.”

Georgia Tech: “I’ve been to Tech about five times. The location is nice, I have teammates going there, and I really like the coaches. I feel like I’d have a chance to play early there and the future is bright.”
