Colorado football is unsurprisingly falling in rating metrics after its 36-20 loss to Houston on Friday.
The 16-point margin was drastically different from the 4 1/2 closing point spread. Colorado was thoroughly beaten in nearly all facets, especially in the second half. ESPN’s Football Power Index dropped Colorado four spots to No. 59. The team’s rating now sits at 2.5, the third-worst mark in the Big 12.

More importantly, the metric’s updated win-loss projection for Colorado sits at 4.5-7.5. Simply put, the Buffs are currently on the outside looking in at a bowl game and seem destined for either a 5-7 or 4-8 season.
After wrapping up nonconference play against Wyoming this Saturday, Colorado faces its most challenging stretch of games against FPI’s No. 22 (BYU), No. 25 (TCU), No. 34 (Iowa State) and No. 18 (Utah) teams. Not to mention the game after Utah is against a resurgent Arizona squad, which is currently ranked at No. 38; that rating could be even higher in a few weeks.
Colorado’s next four to five games will essentially tell the story of the Buffaloes’ entire 2025 season.
