Every major quarterback flip, decommitment during 2025 recruiting cycle

Centennial Huskies Quarterback Husan Longstreet (4) catches the ball at Liberty High School on Sept. 21, 2024, in Peoria.

The recruiting cycle is full of flips, decommitments, and surprise commitments every year. This cycle is no different.

Several of the nation’s top recruits have either stepped back from their original decisions or flipped entirely. Arguably, no decision group has seen more changes than that of the 2025 quarterback class.

From five-stars suddenly making a change to some three-star recruits flipping, this group of quarterbacks has seen no shortage of changes throughout the cycle.

In the new NIL-dominated world, that is to be expected. However, the number of changes across the board is hard to fathom.

Here’s a look at what quarterbacks have flipped from their original commitments.

5-star Bryce Underwood: LSU to Michigan

Michigan landed the biggest win of the 2025 recruiting cycle when they flipped Bryce Underwood away from LSU on November 21.

The nation’s No. 1 overall player and a Michigan native, Underwood had been committed to LSU since January 6. He is the second highest-ranked commitment in Michigan history according to 247Sports.

5-star Keelon Russell: SMU to Alabama

It’s hard to fathom that Russell has been committed to anywhere but Alabama during the cycle but at one point he was going to stay home and play at SMU. That decision quickly changed in June, though, when Russell announced he was flipping to the Crimson Tide on June 4.

Russell ranks as the No. 3 overall player in the 2025 class.

5-star Husan Longstreet: Texas A&M to USC

When Julian Lewis decommitted from USC on November 17, questions arose on what the Trojans would have to do next. They didn’t have to wait long as Longstreet, a then Texas A&M pledge, flipped their way just six minutes after Lewis’ departure.

Longstreet ranks as this class’s No.4 quarterback and No. 28 player overall.

Deuce Knight: Notre Dame to Auburn

Knight’s recruitment this year has been contentious. For months, it was the worst-kept secret that he would be flipping to Auburn and away from Notre Dame.

He finally did it on October 2 but things aren’t shut and closed yet as Ole Miss remains a heavy factor in his recruitment.

Knight ranks as the No. 6 quarterback and No. 52 player in the class.

Julian Lewis: USC to Colorado

Lewis had long been the diamond in Lincoln Riley’s 2025 class with the Trojans. However, rumors began to spread in October of Lewis flipping elsewhere.

Once he decommitted from USC, the assumption was that Colorado would be the favorite to land him. That turned out to be true, as he committed to the Buffaloes on November 21.

Lewis ranks as the No. 9 quarterback and No. 115 player in the class.

4-star Antwaan Hill: Colorado to Memphis

Deion Sanders and Colorado needed a quarterback in its 2025 class because of Hill. He decommitted from the Buffaloes last November.

Hill waited awhile before his next decision. He ultimately committed to Memphis on June 22.

Hill ranks as the No. 10 quarterback and No. 119 player in the class.

4-star Adam Schobel: Baylor to Oklahoma State to TCU

Schobel flip-flipped his way between three schools in a matter of four months.

His rollercoaster recruitment began on April 22 when he flipped his commitment from Baylor to Oklahoma State. On July 29, he would then flip from the Cowboys to TCU.

Schobel ranks as the No. 16 quarterback and No. 197 player in the class.

4-star Ty Hawkins: TCU to SMU

The Mustangs may have lost a commitment from a quarterback who would ultimately become one of the best in the class, but they weren’t left in the dark.

SMU picked up a major win on July 3 when they flipped Hawkins away from TCU, adding another layer to that rivalry.

Hawkins ranks as the No. 18 quarterback and No. 215 player in the class.

Carter Smith: Michigan to ???

Amidst all the talk back in October that Underwood would eventually flip to Michigan, Smith opened his recruitment on October 30.

He has yet to make a decision but has taken an official visit to Wisconsin and will take one to Florida State at the end of the month.

Smith ranks as the No. 20 quarterback in the class.

4-star Tramell Jones: Florida State to Florida

Amid the worst season possibly ever, Florida State has seen a plethora of its 2025 pledges decommit or flip elsewhere. That’s just what happened with their future quarterback, Jones.

Jones decommitted from Florida State in November. Three days later, he announced he would be committing to the Florida Gators.

Smith ranks as the No. 21 quarterback in the class.

3-star Blake Hebert: Clemson to Notre Dame

Losing Knight was a major blow to Notre Dame’s 2025 class as he was the cornerstone of that group.

However, the Fighting Irish didn’t wait long to replace him. Hebert decommitted from Clemson on October 13 and committed to Notre Dame a day later.

Hebert ranks as the No. 26 quarterback in the class.

3-star Dash Beierly: Arizona to Washington

Originally committed to the Wildcats, Beierly flipped his decision to the Huskies on January 23.

He ranks as the No. 27 quarterback in the class.

3-star Jackson Kollock: Washington to Minnesota

Kollock announced his decision to decommit from Washington on January 24. Exactly two months later, he committed to the Golden Gophers.

Kollock ranks as the No. 28 quarterback in the class.

3-star Cutter Woods: Wake Forest to South Carolina

A former Wake Forest pledge, Woods announced his decision to flip to the Gamecocks on June 24.

Woods ranks as the No. 42 quarterback in the class.

3-star Kevin Sperry: Oklahoma to Florida State

A lot has gone wrong for the Seminoles this year, both on and off the field. They did get a win, flipping Sperry away from Oklahoma on November 21.

Sperry ranks as the No. 47 quarterback in the class.
