Family Matter the Reason Chrissi Rawak Will Not Assume CEO Role with USA Swimming
Surprising news was released on Friday night by USA Swimming that revealed that University of Delaware Athletics Director Chrissi Rawak, recently tabbed to be the new CEO and President of the governing body, would not assume the position. USA Swimming indicated in a press release that the decision was due to “unforeseen personal circumstances.”
Sports Illustrated’s Pat Forde posted on his X social media account that Rawak’s decision was related to a family situation. According to a text message obtained by Forde that was sent by Rawak to Delaware athletic staff members, Rawak’s mother-in-law recently passed away and she needed to tend to family. The text message obtained by Forde stated:
“It has been a very difficult last few days. My mother in law passed away unexpectedly and my father in law is not in a good place and will likely come back to (Delaware) with us. Because of this I have made the incredibly difficult decision to not become the CEO (of) USA Swimming. While this is incredibly difficult there is nothing more important than my family and this is what is needed. This is going to be announced tonight and I wanted you to be aware. Not asking you to do anything just did not want you to be surprised. I will be out of the office next week working through this with my family.”
USA Swimming indicated that with Rawak’s withdrawal from the CEO and President position, interim CEO Shana Ferguson will continue in that role.
