Arguably, Ohio State‘s biggest recruiting target for the 2027 class, five-star running back David Gabriel Georges, appears to be close to committing. He’s down to the Buckeyes and the Tennessee Volunteers after official visits to both, with many experts feeling he is an OSU lean.
However, in today’s recruiting game with Name, Image and Likeness, you just never know, especially with the hometown team like Tennessee coming hard at him as the recruiting process nears an end. Will Georges make a decision based on money or what’s best for his development? Will it be a combination of both? We all know that the Volunteers can throw cash around, so despite what the experts think, this one could go the other way.

Recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports provided an update on where things stand with Georges after talking with his family, and while it is some feedback, it’s not anything that we can look at and draw concrete conclusions.
“The main thing for us is for him to go to a school where he can showcase his talent,” Georges’ family told Wiltfong. “We know what he’s capable of doing.”
One would think Ohio State would have the advantage if that’s the case. Tennessee’s offense, though still utilizing the running back extensively, isn’t the type that will lean on the running game as much as what the Buckeyes have done in the past. OSU has also sent many more running backs to the NFL as of late and shown a balanced offensive scheme that uses the running back with traditional handoffs and out of the backfield, much more aligned with what Georges would see in the NFL.

That being said, Tennessee did have the SEC’s leading rusher a couple of years ago with Dylan Sampson and also have an All-SEC running back returning this season in DeSean Bishop, so it’s not like head coach Josh Heupel doesn’t get things cranked up in the running game. Still, you’d have to think OSU has the slight edge with what we saw from Bo Jackson last year and the two-headed monster of TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins in 2024.
As we hear more on where things stand with Gabriel Georges, we’ll bring any news to you. At the moment, he has several crystal balls projected for him to land at Ohio State, but those aren’t worth what they once were.
