FAMU women’s basketball wins overtime thriller at Samford for second victory of season

It took some extra time, but Florida A&M women’s basketball left Samford victorious on Friday night.

The Rattlers (2-8) defeated the Bulldogs (4-10) 72-67 in an overtime thriller in Birmingham’s Pete Hanna Center. It was FAMU’s second straight win this season.

FAMU guard Cheyenne McEvans, a transfer from Syracuse, led the Rattlers with a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double.

McEvans had a solid supporting cast behind her, with Sabou Gueye (14 points), Eve Alexander (12 points), and D’Mya Griffin (11 points) all scoring in double figures.

FAMU also outrebounded Samford 51-34, with Zikeyah Carter collecting 10 boards for the Rattlers alongside McEvans’ 10.

FAMU women’s basketball returns to action on Dec. 29 when it hosts Thomas University at the Al Lawson Center.
