Tributes are pouring in on social media after a women’s basketball star tragically passed away at 30 years old.

Tiana Mangakahia, a former standout player for the Syracuse Orange who went on to play professionally, died this week. She began her career with the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) before going on to play college basketball in the United States. She starred at Syracuse University between 2017 and 2021.

The ex-women’s basketball star played for the Australian national team, too, winning a bronze medal at the FIBA Asia Cup in 2021.

In the wake of her passing, tributes are pouring in on social media.

“Our Orange family mourns the loss of Tiana Mangakahia, who passed away on Sept. 11, at the age of 30. She was a fierce competitor with an infectious personality. Our hearts are with the Mangakahia family & all those who loved her. May we never forget her fight,” Syracuse wrote.

Fans are devastated

Fans are crushed by the news of the ex-women’s college basketball star’s passing this weekend, as tributes are pouring in.

“Heartbreaking news in our basketball community, Tiana Mangakahia passed away last night at age 30. At peace now after fighting cancer so hard several times. A vibrant, beautiful person 💔💔💔,” one fan wrote.

“She had what it took to be one of our best but this horrific illness robbed her of the career she deserved. Most importantly, she had so, so much more life to live. Rest now, T 🩷,” one fan added.

“Her story of resilience, courage and love for the game touched people far beyond basketball. Though she’s gone far too soon, her legacy will continue to inspire athletes and fans for years to come. Our thoughts are with her family, friends and the basketball community,” one fan added.
