The Indiana Fever are gearing up for the 2025 WNBA season with an exciting mix of young talent and experienced veterans.
One of their newest additions, two-time champion Sydney Colson, is expected to bring leadership, energy and a winning mentality to the roster.
The Fever’s General Manager and COO Amber Cox recently shared her thoughts on Colson’s arrival and what she means for the team.
“I think she’s going to bring a lot of joy to our lives this season,” Cox said. “She’s going to be able to lead our team.”
“And obviously, you know, great personality as well. Brings a lot of fun and levity to the locker room. Again, that experience, knows when we need which side, right? Like the serious, the tough, veteran leadership versus the, you know, fun, playful Syd.” Cox added.
Colson’s championship experience with the Las Vegas Aces, where she played alongside MVP A’ja Wilson, makes her an asset to the Fever. Her presence adds depth to the team as they continue to build around rising star Caitlin Clark, who enters her second year in the league.
Colson signed a one-year, $90,000 deal with the Fever in February and is expected to serve as a veteran presence in the backcourt.
Beyond basketball, Colson recognizes the Fever’s growing impact on the city of Indianapolis.
“You got people coming from out of town, out of state, out of the country, maybe even, to see games. And so that’s special,” she noted.
The Fever have become one of the most talked-about teams in the WNBA, largely due to Clark’s rising stardom and the team’s competitive trajectory. Colson embraces the heightened attention surrounding Indiana.
“I’m going from a team that was very immersed in media, people were excited to watch us, to another that is arguably the most talked-about team in sports right now,” told the Indy Star. “It’s exciting to be a part of a team that has a lot of positive energy around it.”
“I’m bringing veteran leadership, knowledge, energy, swinging the defensive momentum, just being that person that’s dependable,” she said. “I want to win, ultimately.”
The Fever’s offseason moves have significantly strengthened their roster. In addition to Colson, the Fever added three-time champion Natasha Howard, two-time champion DeWanna Bonner and shooter Sophie Cunningham.
With a revamped lineup and experienced voices like Colson in the locker room, the Fever aim to build on their success from last season and make a deeper playoff run.
