Caitlin Clark noticeably opted out of questioning from reporters after the Indiana Fever narrowly fell 90-88 to the Golden State Valkyries on Thursday. According to Bleacher Report, Mercury News reporter Joseph Dycus asked to get post-game comments from Clark only to be told by the Fever’s staff that she chose not to speak to the media.

“Caitlin Clark was not made available to the press after the Valkyries beat the Fever 90-88,” Dycus posted to his page on X, formerly Twitter, afterward. “I asked Fever PR to talk to her, and they said she was not going to talk tonight.”
Before the 2023 season, the WNBA put a new media policy in place that eliminated locker room access to reporters but allowed the media to request to speak to individual players outside of the post-game press conferences. However, many players still opt to skip out on those media obligations and take a fine instead.
Clark’s frustration after the contest was understandable, though. The young star shot only 3-of-12 from the field and 2-of-6 from beyond the arc with five turnovers, finishing with a season-low 16 points, six assists, four rebounds, and three steals in the defeat. She did still have a notable night, however. Clark notched the 500th assist of her career in the second quarter, becoming the fastest player in WNBA history to reach the milestone.
Even with that reason to celebrate, Clark and likely the Fever should expect to hear from the W’s front office sometime soon.
