The FIA has opened applications for its third FIA Motorsport Engineering Scholarship at Cranfield University.
The competitive programme will enable one student to complete a fully funded postgraduate degree at Cranfield, a globally-recognised specialist postgraduate university.
This year, for the very first time, prospective students will be able to choose between two Master’s programmes – Advanced Motorsport Engineering or Advanced Motorsport Mechatronics. Mechatronics is an in-demand discipline, where students learn to integrate mechanical and electrical systems capable of adapting to rapidly changing conditions within the racing environment.
The initiative was introduced by the FIA President in 2022 in order to promote diversity and inclusion, and remove barriers to education for talented young people worldwide.
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem said: “We are delighted to open the FIA Motorsport Engineering Scholarship for a third year. As a knowledge-led organisation, we have expanded educational and training opportunities through partnership programmes overseen by our FIA University. This year’s scholarship will mark another key step forward for our Federation and our community in this area.”
Muhammad Yasir from Pakistan received the 2023-2024 scholarship. He follows in the footsteps of Jessica Salvini, who won the first FIA Engineering Scholarship in 2022. He said: “The moment I received the news that I was awarded the FIA scholarship was nothing short of a dream come true! This isn’t just a personal milestone—it’s a significant leap forward in my professional journey, opening doors to opportunities I had only ever imagined. This recognition pushes me to work even harder and embrace every challenge that comes my way with unwavering commitment.”
Cranfield University is one of the leading universities in the motorsport space – ranking in the global top 30 for mechanical and aeronautical engineering. It has carried out extensive research, consultancy, and testing for the motorsport sector since the 1970s. The university is also home to the FIA-approved Cranfield Impact Centre and AXSIM Racing, both widely used by the world’s on- and off- road racing teams.
Professor of Automotive Engineering, James Brighton said: “We’re delighted to be continuing this scholarship opportunity with the FIA. Applications for the scholarship will close on 21st March 2025.
