The final stretch of recruiting in the 2025 class is here, which means flip season is upon us, as prospects look to finalize where they will call home.
For Michigan State football, there are a couple of prospects that they are in pursuit of, looking to flip into their 2025 recruiting class, which currently sits at 15 commits.
The Michigan State staff would like to get that number just north of 20, if they can, and supplement their first class during the Jonathan Smith era in East Lansing.
Check out the prospects that fans need to monitor as the cycle comes to a close:
OUTGOING
Let’s get the elephant out of the room early, because while everyone loves flipping prospects, sometimes it goes in the opposite direction. In a flip article, it is worth noting two prospects are on flip watch, as the Spartans fight to keep their commitments to MSU.
East Lansing (MI) RB Jace Clarizio received an Alabama offer and took a visit to Tuscaloosa. The Spartans seemed to have weathered the storm for now, but it will be a battle until signing day.
Quince Orchard (MD) CB Aydan West has taken visits to Virginia Tech and Ohio State the past two weekends, with both schools pursuing the MSU pledge. West is scheduled to visit East Lansing next weekend, where the Spartans will get the last swing before signing day.
Lastly, until signing day is here and pen hits paper, it is worth monitoring all commitments for something unforeseen popping up in the fluid world of recruiting.
Terrance ‘Deuce’ Edwards
West Virginia defensive back commit Terrance ‘Deuce’ Edwards took an official visit to MSU for their win against Purdue and received crystal balls to land the prospect.
The cousin of Felton Davis, Edwards would be an excellent addition to the MSU class.
Cairo Skanes
With Edwards, MSU also hosted Charlotte (NC) native and Miami (OH) commit Cairo Skanes. The defensive back has visited Wisconsin, along with the Spartans, and MSU is looking to add the DB into their 2025 recruiting class.
Fresh off of his visit, be on the lookout for news in this recruitment this week.
Gianni Edwards
A recent offeree, and another defensive back, Gianni Edwards is an Arizona commit with NFL pedigree. Edwards is scheduled to officially visit Michigan State for their season finale against Rutgers. If that visit comes to fruition, be on the lookout for MSU to make a push in this recruitment.
Brooks Williams
Michigan State needs pass rushers, and in a bad way. One prospect that the staff has identified is Brooks Williams, a Port Saint Lucie (FL) native committed to USF. While he hasn’t received an offer just yet, that could come soon and Williams has indicated his desire to visit East Lansing.
If a visit with Williams happens, I expect the Spartans to be in position to add this 6’6, 220 pound defensive end into their class.
Zion Gist
The third official visitor of this weekend, a win over Purdue, was Western Michigan running back commit Zion Gist. Gist, a Frankfort (IL) native, is an under the radar prospect that the Spartans have identified and want in their class.
It has been made clear that if the Spartans pursue Gist’s commitment, it does not mean Clarizio is flipping to Alabama, but that the Spartans just really like the prospect of what he can bring to the class.
Bonus: Grant Beerman
A name that makes a lot of sense is linebacker Grant Beerman, a native of West Chester (OH). The Spartans pushed hard for the Purdue commit in the summer, before his commitment to the Boilermakers, and have kept some level of contact with the defensive product.
While the pairing makes sense, it did not make sense to fully include him on the list because no visits are in the plans and there is no knowledge of him actively looking to move off of his Purdue commitment, although a coaching change there could change the tides.
OTHER
Flipping prospects can be a sensitive topics, as the teams trying to flip prospects do not always want it known that they are swooping in, so the team that holds the commitment does not try to put a stop to it. All of this means that there could be a few prospects that the Spartans are in contact with that are not yet known to the public.
Recruiting is fluid, so fans should be on their toes as the closing weeks of the cycle conclude.
