Rapper-athlete Flau’jae Johnson has always been committed to building a dual career. “A lot of people who are like, ‘I don’t know how she does both,’ or think that I can’t do both,” she said to Sportish last year. “I just want to show them that with hard work, anything is possible.” Now, on what turned out to be a monumental night for her, a moment that perfectly brought those two careers together finally arrived.
In the third quarter of the Storms’ game against the Sun, Johnson, while speaking about the game, was met with a surprise. Her latest single, “Woah”, was playing in the loudspeakers at the Climate Pledge Arena. Mid-interview, she took the opportunity to point out, “Oh, they’re playing my song. Y’all go stream WOAH.”

It was also the night when she created history, becoming the fastest guard to reach 10 blocks in the WNBA. Upon reading this record, she took to X to send a message: “God is the greatest!”
Johnson, selected No. 8 overall in the 2026 Draft, did not have the best offensive start to her WNBA career. Entering the Sun game, she was averaging just 6.6 points per game while shooting below 35% from the field across her first five outings. But against Connecticut, she exploded for 17 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and three blocks while shooting 58.3% from the field.
Johnson is also leading the league in combined steals and blocks with seven steals and 10 blocks so far. Her defense has clearly been elite and could begin earning All-Defense consideration if she manages to keep this up.

Meanwhile, her rapping career is also going strong. “Woah,” the song the Storm played during a halftime dance troupe performance in the arena, has already crossed 350,000 streams across platforms. In that moment, the track was heard by 9,741 fans inside the arena and millions more watching on the broadcast. Johnson already has a solid resume in the music industry, with two albums, “4 Fans” and “Best of Both Worlds,” along with a mixtape titled “Flaumix.”
Both of Johnson’s careers could do wonders for her brand. She was among the highest NIL earners back in college, with a valuation of $1.5 million, and could continue that success as a WNBA player, especially since she is committed to giving her 100% to both.

The Golden State Valkyries had initially drafted Johnson at the 2026 WNBA draft, but on the same night, traded her rights to the Storm. In return, Golden State got the N0. 16 pick and a 2028 pick. As for the Storm, they got a baller who’s now getting “franchise player” shouts from within the locker room.

“I think (Flau) brings a lot of energy for us,” Storm guard Zia Cooke said after the Sun game, before revealing that she expects a lot from her.
“I’ve been watching her really dial in on knowing when to score, when to pass the ball. I just told somebody today in an interview that she’s our franchise player… So she got to step up every single night and kind of play like a vet. And it’s a lot of pressure, but I’m just super proud of her to see just her resilience and how she’s just been coming out every single night and doing what she needs to do.”
Overall, the Storm had a solid draft night. They acquired Johnson and also selected Awa Fam at No. 3 overall, adding to a talented young core that already includes Dominique Malonga.
That said, Malonga is yet to make a serious impact on the roster this season, while Fam is still waiting to suit up. Johnson, meanwhile, has already added a spark to the Storm, with her energetic defense and off-court presence bringing more eyeballs to the franchise.
