The Florida A&M Director of Athletics presented Gordon’s extension to the Board of Trustees and asked them to finalize the amendment for her extension. It was ultimately approved by the Board of Trustees on Wednesday.
Gordon was hired in July 2023 and came with significant fanfare. She played under legendary head coach Pat Summitt at the University of Tennessee, helping lead the Lady Vols to an NCAA national championship in 1987. But Gordon’s tenure has been up and down over the past couple of seasons. She’s had significant successes, such as the recruitment of former Alabama guard Ahriahna Grizzle, who was named SWAC Player of the Year in her lone season with the program.
The Lady Rattlers also won their first SWAC tournament game under Gordon, beating rival Bethune-Cookman University in the first round before ultimately losing to Alabama A&M in the second round. But Gordon has had successive losing seasons the past three years. In the 2023-2024 season, the team went 9-21 and 8-10 in conference. In 2025, the team went 9-20 and 6-12 in conference. And this past year, the team went 9-22 and 7-11 in conference.
Bridgette Gordon will look to turn it around in the 2026-2027 season and win the big games as well as recruit players that can compete with the best teams in the SWAC.
