Florida football adds Furman to its 2028 non-conference schedule

by

Florida football announced it will play Furman on Sept. 2, 2028, as part of its non-conference schedule.

The matchup will hold special meaning for Florida Gators coach Billy Napier, who was four-year letterwinner at Furman from 1998-2002 and two-time All-Southern Conference selection as the starting quarterback for the Paladins. Napier led the Paladins to two conference championships and in 2001, Napier’s junior year, advanced to the Division I-AA national championship game, losing to Montana.

UF and Furman have played nine times dating back to the 1922 season, with the last meeting coming in 2011. Florida holds a record of 7-2 against Furman, having won the last seven contests against the FCS school.

Florida returns to spring football practice this week after taking a week off for spring break. The Gators will hold its annual Pro Day to showcase former players for NFL scouts on Thursday and will hold its spring game, the Orange & Blue game, on April 12 at 1 p.m. at The Swamp. Admission is free.
