The Florida Gators had a bye during college football’s Week 9, and it was a much-needed breather after dismissing Billy Napier from the head coach position after a narrow 23-21 win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs for homecoming.
Interim head coach Billy Gonzales will be coaching in his first-ever game as the top dog on the sidelines and it could not come in a bigger game than Saturday’s rivalry matchup with the Georgia Bulldogs in Jacksonville. The Orange and Blue have a steep hill to climb to get back to respectability, and a victory this weekend would go a long way in doing just that.

However, it feels like a Sisyphean task getting back to the top and CBS Sports’ latest reranking of all 136 Football Bowl Subdivision schools does not offer much in the way of optimism. After Week 9’s action, Florida remained ranked No. 56 — between the No. 55 MSU Bulldogs, who already lost to Florida, and the No. 57 NC State Wolfpack.
At least the schadenfreude is strong in this update, as the Florida State Seminoles come in at No. 61 despite moving up four spots. On the other hand, the Dawgs remain at No. 6 overall.
