Former Florida football quarterback Danny Wuerffel’s impact on college football continues to be felt well beyond his playing days.
On Tuesday, Maxwell Football Club executive director Max Wolpert announced that the former Gator will receive the Francis “Reds” Bagnell Award, an honor presented each year to individuals who have made lasting contributions to the sport.

Wuerffel will be recognized at the 89th Maxwell Awards on March 14 at the Coca-Cola Roxy Theater in Atlanta.
The award adds to an already distinguished football resume, but it also highlights a different side of Wuerffel’s legacy. While he is best known to Florida fans for leading the Gators to a national championship and winning the Heisman Trophy during the 1996 season, the Bagnell Award focuses on long-term influence rather than on-field accomplishments alone.
It is given to figures whose work has helped shape and support college football as a whole.
Since stepping away from the game, Wuerffel has remained deeply connected to the sport through leadership, service and community involvement. He has spent years working in nonprofit leadership, emphasizing education, mentorship and community development, particularly in underserved areas.
