Despite announcing his commitment to Iowa basketball on May 21, former Florida International guard Ashton Williamson will no longer be joining the program for the upcoming 2025-26 season and has decommitted from the Hawkeyes, according to a report from the Des Moines Register’s Tyler Tachman.

Williamson, who will have three years of eligibility remaining wherever he plays next season, averaged 7.3 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.6 steals per game in 33 games played, including 16 starts, during his freshman season with the Panthers.

The Gary, Indiana, native shot 39.4% from the field, 32.9% from deep, and 67.6% from the free-throw line. Williamson was also a frequent threat from beyond the arc as he attempted 85 3-pointers.

Williamson spent time as a post-grad playing at Sunrise Christian Academy, where he earned offers from FIU, Western Kentucky, and Northern Illinois.

Iowa recently announced another transfer addition from Drake in former Bulldog forward Joey Matteoni.

Matteoni joins Bennett Stirtz, Kael Combs, Cam Manyawu, Isaia Howard and Tavion Banks as the sixth former Drake Bulldog to follow McCollum to Iowa City. Those six will be joined by Robert Morris transfer Alvaro Folgueiras, Kansas State transfer Brendan Hausen, incoming freshmen Trevin Jirak and Tate Sage and Hawkeye returnee Cooper Koch.
