For the first time in six years, the two largest universities in the state by enrollment will face off in men’s basketball.
Wisconsin will play host to UW-Milwaukee at the Kohl Center on December 30 in a non-conference contest between the Big Ten and Horizon League programs, the schools announced June 27.

It will be the first time the two teams played during the regular season since Dec. 21, 2019, a game Wisconsin won, 83-64.
Since becoming the Panthers head coach prior to the 2022-23 season, getting games with Wisconsin and Marquette has been a goal of Bart Lundy’s. When Milwaukee had its non-conference game with Rhode Island canceled in 2022, the Badgers expressed interest in playing the Panthers instead, but the timing coinciding with winter break had scrambled their team a bit.
Milwaukee and Marquette haven’t faced off in a cross-town clash since 2011.
“We’ll play wherever,” Lundy said last year, adding he’s been in talks with Marquette in recent years. “They want to play at the park, we’ll play at the park.”

Wisconsin owns a 9-1 record in the all-time series with Milwaukee, which dates back to the 1992-93 season. The Panthers’ lone win came in 2015 when, led by former Badgers assistant coach Rob Jeter, they won, 68-67, at the Kohl Center in one of Bo Ryan’s final games as head coach.
