Former Canucks Forward O’Reilly Joins Exclusive List In The AHL

Milwaukee Admirals center Cal O’Reilly (16) celebrates his empty-net goal during the third period against the Texas Stars in a game Saturday, January 20, 2024, at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Thursday featured a historic moment in the AHL. For just the ninth time in the league’s storied history, a player suited up for their 1,000th career game. That player was Milwaukee Admirals’ forward Cal O’Reilly, who hit the milestone during Milwaukee’s game against the Chicago Wolves.

Canucks Prospect Update: February 2025

As mentioned, only eight other players have hit the 1,000th game mark for their AHL careers. The others are Willie Marshall, Fred Glover, Bryan Helmer, Brett Sutter, Harry Pidhirny, Mike Nykoluk, Jody Gage and Rob Murray. O’Reilly also ranks in the top 20 in all-time points with 764 points and is one of seven players to record more than 550 assists in the AHL.

While O’Reilly never played an NHL game for the Vancouver Canucks, he did sign a one-year contract with the organization back in 2014. During the 2014-15 season, O’Reilly was captain of the Utica Comets, who, at the time, were the Canucks AHL affiliate. During his two seasons with the Comets, O’Reilly recorded 106 points in 128 games and was wearing the “C” when Utica made their run to the 2015 Calder Cup Final.

As for the next player who could hit the 1,000-game mark in the AHL, that would be Bridgeport Islanders left winger Chris Terry, who currently sits at 863 games. The current leader for the Abbotsford Canucks is John Stevens, who has played 389 AHL games. Other Abbotsford players who have skated in over 300 AHL regular season games include Phil Di Giuseppe (314) and Carsen Twarynski (301).
