Norfolk State women’s basketball standout Carmen Kweti is headed to one of basketball’s most iconic venues. Kweti has been selected to compete in the HBCU All-Star Dream Classic, which will be held Aug. 8 at New York City’s famed Rucker Park.

She is one of 40 HBCU women’s basketball players chosen to participate in the showcase, which will also feature a men’s all-star game highlighting talent from HBCUs. The selection marks another milestone in Kweti’s collegiate basketball journey, which has included standout seasons at both Virginia State and Norfolk State.
Kweti began her HBCU career at Virginia State during the 2024-25 season, where she quickly established herself as one of Division II’s top interior players. She appeared in 29 games, making 23 starts, while averaging 6.7 points and 11.8 rebounds per game. Her rebounding average led the CIAA and ranked fourth in NCAA Division II.

Her defensive impact earned her CIAA Defensive Player of the Year honors after she finished the season with 51 steals and 28 blocks, cementing herself as one of the conference’s premier defenders. Following that breakout campaign, Kweti transferred to Norfolk State for the 2025-26 season.

She played in 29 games, making 10 starts, and averaged 4.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.4 blocks and 1.0 steal per game. Kweti once again emerged as one of the conference’s top defensive players, leading the MEAC in blocks per game while finishing second in total blocks.
One of her best performances came against Howard University on Jan. 31, when she recorded 12 points, six rebounds and five blocks, showcasing the rim protection that has become her trademark. Now, Kweti will take her talents to Rucker Park, joining some of the top players in HBCU basketball for a showcase that celebrates the talent and visibility of Black college basketball on one of the sport’s most historic outdoor courts.
