Former Iowa Hawkeyes men’s basketball coach Fran McCaffery may have found a new home as the head coach at Penn, but his recruiting and use of the transfer portal have not missed a beat and are off to a hot start.
The 15-year head coach at Iowa departed the program following this season and has quickly found his footing at Penn. McCaffery has landed a top player via the transfer portal already and is making waves in the college basketball world.

As reported by Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, McCaffery and Penn have landed a commitment from TJ Power, the former Duke Blue Devils and Virginia Cavaliers forward.
Power spent his freshman season, 2023-24, with the Duke Blue Devils, appearing in 26 games. He averaged 2.1 points in 6.7 minutes of action each night. He transferred to Virginia following one season with Duke.
At Virginia, Power appeared in 24 games last year, averaging 1.3 points per game.
Coming out of high school, where he attended Worcester Academy, Power was a five-star recruit rated as the No. 20 player overall, the No. 6 power forward, and the No. 1 player from Massachusetts in the class of 2023, per 247Sports.
