Former Iowa State star Ashley Joens signs training camp contract with Atlanta Dream

One of the best players in Iowa State women’s basketball history is getting another shot at the WNBA.

The Atlanta Dream announced Friday that it signed former Cyclones star Ashley Joens to a training camp contract.

The move opens up an opportunity for Joens to earn a roster spot with the Dream for the upcoming season. Joens last appeared in the WNBA in 2023.

She is one of the most decorated players in Iowa State history. The former Iowa City High School standout was a three-time Cheryl Miller Award winner, which is given to the nation’s best small forward, and the Big 12 Player of the Year in 2023.

Joens was selected in the second round of the 2023 WNBA Draft by the Dallas Wings. During her one season in the WNBA, Joens bounced around the league.

She appeared in 19 total games between Dallas, Phoenix and Las Vegas. Joens appeared in two games with the Aces and earned a championship ring with the team.

She’s since been playing overseas.
