PJ Carter is headed to LSU after one season with Memphis basketball.
The 6-foot-4 senior guard announced his commitment to LSU on social media May 2. Carter is one of six players to enter the transfer portal after spending the 2024-25 season under Memphis coach Penny Hardaway. Carter becomes the second one of them to announce where he’s going next, following Damarien “Dink” Yates, who is headed to Alabama State.

Shortly after Carter’s announcement, another former Memphis guard Baraka Okojie announced his commitment to Mercer. Appearing in 31 games at Memphis, Okojie made two starts and averaged 1.5 points and 1.2 assists in 11.2 minutes a game.
Carter, an Atlanta native, appeared in all 35 games for the Tigers, averaging 5.5 points and 1.5 rebounds a game. His specialty was his 3-point shooting, connecting on 40.3% of his attempts.
His most productive game in a Memphis uniform came in a win at Rice on Feb. 2, when he scored 19 points. But he also came up big in several moments throughout the season, perhaps none more so than in the overtime win over UConn at the Maui Invitational. He scored nine points (all in the overtime period) and had three rebounds, including one that led to Huskies coach Dan Hurley earning a pivotal technical foul.
Hardaway has made significant strides toward rebuilding the Tigers’ roster. Memphis has officially signed nine newcomers, six of whom are guards − Sincere Parker, Dug McDaniel, Julius Thedford, Quante Berry, Daniel Vieira-Tuck and Felipe Patino. The Tigers have also signed wing Zachary Davis, big man Aaron Bradshaw and forward Ashton Hardaway.

The only player from the 2024-25 roster expected to return is point guard Dante Harris.
All-conference big man Dain Dainja has filed a waiver request with the NCAA in hopes of playing one more season.
Consensus All-American PJ Haggerty has not yet announced his next move, although multiple reports indicate NC State is his likely destination.
