It was sadly announced this weekend that former NASCAR driver Michael Annett has passed away. He was only 39.
Over the course of his NASCAR career, Annett made 436 combined starts. He was best known for his run in the Xfinity Series, winning the NASCAR Racing Experience 300 at Daytona in 2019. Prior to picking up that win, he spent a few years competing in the Cup Series.

Annett’s death was first announced by his former team, JR Motorsports. That led to a touching tribute from Brad Keselowski.
“I remember this day vividly. Michael was an up and comer at the same time I was and he was looking really good. In the end, Life took us different paths and all of us who knew him and the talent he had are sad to see him go, but glad he is no longer suffering,” Keselowski wrote on social media.
Later on Friday night, NASCAR released a statement on this tragic loss.

“NASCAR is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former NASCAR driver Michael Annett,” NASCAR said in a statement. “Michael was a respected competitor whose determination, professionalism, and positive spirit were felt by everyone in the garage. Throughout his career, he represented our sport with integrity and the passion of a true racer. NASCAR extends its condolences to Michael’s family and many friends.”

Tributes pouring in.
The cause of death for Annett hasn’t been announced at this time. All we know is the NASCAR community is devastated by this loss.

“Michael was a key member of JRM from 2017 until he retired in 2021 and was an important part in turning us into the four-car organization we remain today,” JR Motorsports wrote.
“Heartbroken. Going to miss you man. Love you Diesel Mike,” NASCAR driver Noah Gragson said.
“Very sad to lose someone who meant so much to me and my family,” Sammy Smith of the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series added.
