
WEST LAFAYETTE — Former Purdue shooting guard Abbey Ellis is setting her own trailblazing path playing professional basketball in her home country of Australia.
The Melbourne native was named the 2024-25 Betty Watson Breakout Player of the Year in the Women’s National Basketball League. Ellis was recognized as one of the top players under the age of 23 in the Australia-based league.
Ellis averaged 9.5 PPG, 2.2 RPG and 2.8 APG while shooting 40.5% from the floor including 81.8% from the free throw line while playing for Townsville Fire, according to basketball.australiabasket.com.

Last season, Ellis became the first Purdue women’s basketball player in history to score over 1,000 career points as a Boilermaker.
