
Ja’Elyne Matthews’ stint with Rutgers football turned out to be a short one.
The Scarlet Knights true freshman offensive linemen is entering the NCAA transfer portal and will move on from the program, according to 247Sports.

Matthews, out of Toms River North High School, was in spring camp with Rutgers just four months after joining the program as an early enrollee.
He was a three-star recruit as part of the 2025 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Matthews committed to Rutgers in June, picking the Scarlet Knights from an offer list that included Georgia, Tennessee and Miami, among others.

Matthews’ commitment ceremony included appearances from former MLB player Todd Frazier and UFC star Frankie Edgar, both Toms River natives.
Now Matthews is looking for a new home.
