Former Wisconsin basketball star again one of the transfer portal’s top-ranked players

by

Former St John’s, Wisconsin and Kansas wing A.J. Storr remains in the transfer portal as of April 14. Storr entered the portal for the third time in as many seasons earlier this month, following Kansas’ NCAA Tournament first-round loss to Arkansas.

The rising senior struggled to find steady footing with the Jayhawks in 2024-25, averaging just 15.7 minutes, 6.1 points, 1.7 rebounds and 0.7 assists while shooting a career-worst 38.4% from the floor and 29% from 3. That production fell far below expectations after the wing joined the program as 247Sports’ No. 4 overall player in the 2024 transfer cycle.

Of course, that high ranking was due to a standout 2023-24 season with the Badgers, during which Storr averaged 28.8 minutes, 16.8 points, 3.9 rebounds and 0.9 assists while shooting 43% from the field and 32% from 3. He and star point guard Chucky Hepburn led the Badgers to a top-five finish in the Big Ten and an NCAA Tournament appearance.

Despite being a full season removed from that strong performance, with that year including relative struggles on one of the sport’s more disappointing teams, Storr is again one of 247Sports top-ranked transfers. The 6-foot-6 wing is currently a four-star transfer prospect, ranked specifically as the portal’s No. 49 overall player and No. 10 small forward.

There have been few headlines regarding Storr’s potential transfer landing spots. That is despite his status as a top-50 transfer, which would typically attract interest from major programs.

Storr’s commitment and performance during the upcoming season will be worth watching. Wisconsin had little trouble replacing his production in a suddenly high-powered offense. John Tonje, 2024’s No. 296 overall transfer, broke out with an All-American season, falling just short of the program’s single-year scoring record. Storr, meanwhile, is still looking to replicate his form and production from that 2023-24 campaign with the Badgers.
