Alabama football added another defensive end in its 2026 recruiting class on Friday.

Four-star edge rusher Jamarion Matthews committed to the Crimson Tide on Friday, Hayes Fawcett of On3recruits reported. Matthews chose Alabama over Florida State, LSU and Clemson.

The 6-foot-3, 240-pound defender from Gainesville, Georgia, is ranked No. 199 nationally and the No. 17-ranked edge rusher in the class, according to 247Sports’ Composite rankings. He’s also tabbed as the No. 26 player in Georgia.

Matthews held offers from a number of big-time programs, including Penn State, Ole Miss, Auburn and Arkansas, along with the schools previously mentioned.

Matthews is Alabama’s third commitment in its 2026 class, joining four-star athlete Zyan Gibson and three-star defensive lineman Chris Booker. As it stands, the class is ranked No. 32 in the nation, according to 247Sports’ Composite rankings, but still has plenty of commitments to add until the next signing period in December.

“I love the atmosphere and the energy of the fans and the players at Bama,” Matthews told On3.

Matthews reportedly visited Alabama during the Iron Bowl in 2024, along with multiple other unofficial visits, according to On3.
