Frankie Edgar questions Charles Oliveira’s motivation before UFC 326

by

Frankie Edgar has his questions about Charles Oliveira heading into UFC 326.

Oliveira (36-11 MMA, 24-11 UFC) challenges Max Holloway (27-8 MMA, 23-8 UFC) for the BMF title in the March 7 main event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas (Paramount+).

Holloway claimed the BMF title with a last-second knockout of Justin Gaethje at UFC 300 and successfully defended the belt by defeating Dustin Poirier at UFC 318. Meanwhile, Oliveira rebounded from his knockout loss to Ilia Topuria for the lightweight title with a submission of Mateusz Gamrot this past October.

Edgar is more confident in Holloway’s career trajectory.

“I think Holloway is on a tear, kind of like a resurgence a little bit,” Edgar told MMA Junkie. “(155 pounds) is definitely his weight class now. I think going down to ’45 was too taxing on him. Oliveira, I don’t know, sometimes you just wonder. He had such an up-and-down type of career until he became the champion, and you just wonder if he’s still hungry. That’s what I wonder. I feel like Holloway is still chasing the bone.”

Former UFC lightweight champion Edgar, who competed in three different weight classes throughout his career, isn’t against the concept of a BMF title. He made his prediction for the Holloway vs. Oliveira rematch.

“I think it’s cool,” Edgar said of the BMF title. “The guys that are fighting for it right now, it’s fitting. Again, it’s good for the fans, it’s good for the entertainment part of it. You don’t have to sell pay-per-views anymore, but it gets people into it, it gets them interested. I think Max is going to get it done in that rematch.”
