No. 22 Florida State women’s basketball is coming in hot at the right time.
Following its dominating victory over Wake Forest last Sunday, FSU has won five straight games heading into its showdown at Virginia (12-11, 4-7 ACC).
FSU’s offense is now ranked the No. 1, averaging 92.4 points per game, led by the nation’s No. 1 scorer, Ta’Niya Latson, who averages 26.1 points per game.
The Seminoles (18-4, 8-2) are also ranked third in the ACC standings, behind No. 14 North Carolina State (10-1) and No.3 Notre Dame (19-2, 10-0). They continue to climb in the Top 25 polls, and according to ESPN’s bracketology, FSU holds the No. 7 seed in the Spokane Region and will play 10th seed Nebraska in Fort Worth, Texas.
UVA, on the other hand, is moving in the opposite direction. Following its loss to Syracuse, it will look to end its four-game skid. UVA is led by sophomore guard Kymora Johnson, who averages 17.6 points a game, ranking her No. 7 in the conference.
Here is our prediction.

Peter Holland’s FSU basketball vs. UVA scoring prediction
FSU, 93-78: FSU has won five straight games, and I don’t see a reason to slow down. UVA will give the FSU a fight early on, but being that the Seminoles are the No. 1 ranked offense and their scrappy defense, they should dominate on both ends of the floor.
FSU has four different scoring options that will challenge the Cavaliers. Like other opponents, the Cavs will focus on Latson. While her shooting percentage has dropped a bit, she will find ways to score points when on the attack.
The x-factors will be Sydney Bowles and O’Mariah Gordon. Both have been lights out from behind the arc. Makayla Timpson will continue to dominate the paint and expect another double-double performance by the 6-foot-4 senior.
