FSU’s 2025 football schedule features Alabama, but no Belichick

by

While FSU and Miami each will open the 2025 season against collegiate blue-bloods, neither will face the powder-blue-blood that has taken the landscape by storm.

As expected, neither the Seminoles nor Hurricanes play North Carolina — led by new coach Bill Belichick — this fall as a result of the ACC’s revolving non-division schedule model that took effect last season.

All opponents and dates for every conference team were formally announced Monday night. North Carolina won’t avoid the state of Florida altogether; the Tar Heels travel to UCF on Sept. 20.

The ACC’s scheduling format — for now set to run through 2030 — enables all 17 teams to play each other at least twice (once at home, once on the road) over the next seven seasons.

FSU still faces its two locked-in ACC foes, Miami (home, Oct. 4) and Clemson (Nov. 8, away), and travels to Florida on Nov. 29. Arguably its most anticipated game, however, will be its Aug. 30 home opener against Alabama.

That game will serve as an unveiling of more than $250 million in renovations to Doak Campbell Stadium, which features less capacity but roomier seating, and significant infrastructure upgrades. The game will be the Crimson Tide’s first season opener on the road since 2020 and first non-conference road game to start a season since 2000.

Miami, meantime, opens the following night at home for a prime-time game against 2024 College Football Playoff runnerup Notre Dame. The Hurricanes, who play only one road game in the season’s first two months, also host USF and Florida on Sept. 13 and Sept. 20, respectively.

They make their road debut in their ACC opener in Tallahassee on Oct. 4. They don’t leave the state until a Nov. 1 game at SMU.

FSU will play twice on Friday night, Sept. 26 at Virginia for its ACC opener, and Nov. 21 at North Carolina State. Miami hosts Louisville in a Friday night clash Oct. 17.

The Seminoles’ Oct. 18 trip to Stanford will be their first game in California since a 59-20 loss to Oregon in the 2014 College Football Playoff semifinal at the Rose Bowl.
