One of Georgia’s key bench scorers is heading to a new team. Georgia guard De’Shayne Montgomery is transferring to the Dayton Flyers.
Montgomery is ranked as the No. 196 player and the No. 54 shooting guard in the transfer portal, per 247Sports.

Montgomery is one of four Georgia players to enter the transfer portal. He joins guard Silas Demary (committed to UConn), power forward RJ Godfrey (committed to Clemson), and point guard Savo Drezgic (uncommitted).
Montgomery started out his college basketball career with the Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers, where he looked like an effective three-and-defense shooting guard, earning 13.2 points per game, 1.7 steals per game, and a shooting 41.2% from behind the arc.
He transferred to the Georgia Bulldogs for his second season, expecting to be a key contributor to the team. Unfortunately, he played just 17 games because he was academically ineligible for the first 10 games. Afterward, all of his numbers went down, with just 6.5 points and 1.1 steals per game on 25% three-point shooting.
Still, Montgomery impressed in the first three games of the season, earning 16 points per game with a 57.1% three-point percentage. The Dayton Flyers are looking for that side of him to emerge. Dayton is coming off a disappointing season where they narrowly missed the NCAA Tournament.
