Nov. 25—After building a 10-point lead at Jennings County, Greensburg outscored the Lady Panthers 29-10 in the third quarter to take control of the game and cruise to a 77-44 victory.
The Class 3A No. 1 Lady Pirates improve to 5-0 and travel to EIAC foe East Central (4-1) Wednesday. Jennings County moves to 1-3.
Greensburg led 16-11 after the first quarter and extended the lead by five more in the second quarter to head to the locker room on top 34-24 at the break.
Following the big 29-10 third quarter for the Lady Pirates, Greensburg outscored the host squad 14-10 to close out the contest in the 77-44 win.
Greensburg shot nearly 53 percent from the field and held the Lady Panthers to under 36 percent from the field. Greensburg connected on 10 from beyond the 3-point arc.
Greensburg outscored Jennings County 15-0 in transition points and 14-0 on second chance points. The Lady Pirates also controlled the paint, outscoring Jennings County 40-12.
Mylie Wilkison led four Lady Pirates in double figure scoring with 22 points. Leah West added 17 points followed by Claire Larrison 15 and Aly Powers 10 points. Emma Kuntz and Mary Harmon both finished with five points. Aubrie Barnes-Pettit had two points and Emma McQueen hit a free throw for one point.
West finished with a team-high nine rebounds. Larrison pulled downs seven rebounds. McQueen grabbed five rebounds. Wilkison had four rebounds followed by Kuntz three and Harmon two.
Harmon, Wilkison and West all had five assists to lead Greensburg.
Mollie Ernstes led Jennings County in scoring with 21 points. Madelyn McIntosh was also in double figures with 10 points.
Batesville 42, South Ripley 27
The Lady Bulldogs and Lady Raiders of South Ripley battled in a tight game for three quarters. The low-scoring first half had the teams tied 5-5 after the first quarter and Batesville leading 10-8 at the half. South Ripley grabbed a 22-20 lead heading to the fourth quarter, but the Lady Bulldogs exploded for 22 points in the fourth to run off to the 42-27 victory.
Batesville improves to 3-2 on the season. South Ripley drops to 4-3.
Sophie Gesell led the way for the Lady Bulldogs with a double-double of 10 points, 11 rebs and three blocks. Maddie Haskamp tallied 10 points, six rebounds, two assists and three steals. Lydia Haskamp finished with six points and four rebounds.
Kaylin Kathmann added five points, two assists and four steals. Sydney Campbell chipped in with three points, three assists and four rebounds. Nora Wiedeman had three points, two rebounds and one steal. Marlee Obermeyer scored five points and Grace Walter had one steal.
The Lady Bulldogs host Seymour (2-1) Tuesday.
Mt. Vernon (Fortville) 49, Rushville 44
Visiting Mt. Vernon led 26-20 at the half, but the Lady Lions mounted a comeback in the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Marauders 19-9 to lead 39-35. Mt. Vernon turned the tables in the fourth quarter, outscoring Rushville 14-5 to steal a 49-44 victory.
Trisha Morgan hit five 3-pointers en route to a team-high 21 points. She also had two rebounds and one steal. Leonie Boyer finished with a double-double of 13 points, 12 rebounds, one assist and one steal. Carly Senour tallied five points, one rebound and one assist. Gracie Buzzard added three points, three rebounds, three assists and one steal. Makenna Ripberger had two points and four rebounds. Audrey Angle finished with five rebounds, one assist and one block. Mikayla Herbert grabbed three rebounds and had two assists.
Rushville’s junior varsity defeated Mt. Vernon 39-24.
For the Lady Lions, Charli Marcum led the way with 11 points, three steals and nine rebounds. Becca Tabeling scored six points. Emily Rouse added five points and six rebounds. Mel Mahan and Jerrica Taylor both finished with five points and five rebounds. Josie Corn added three points and three assists. Kiarra Flannery scored three points and Charlotte Caviness had one point and seven steals.
Rushville 42, Tri 32
The Lady Lions bounced back with a game Saturday at Tri. The Lady Lions led at every quarter stop en route to the 42-32 victory. Rushville moves to 3-2 and heads to New Palestine (2-2) Tuesday.
The Lady Lions led 13-6 after the first quarter and extended the lead 30-12 at the half. Tri cut into the deficit in the third but still trailed 36-25 heading to the fourth quarter.
Boyer led the Lady Lions in scoring with 22 points and had five rebounds, one assist and four steals. Buzzard also scored in double figures with 10 points to go with five rebounds, one assist and five steals. Kelsey Morgan had five points, one rebound and one steal. Trisha Morgan finished with four points, three rebounds, one assist and three steals. Senour added one point, two rebounds, two assists and two steals. Herbert and Ripberger both grabbed one rebound. Angle tallied a team-high seven rebounds and three steals.
The JV Lady Lions came back from a 10-point deficit at half to defeat Tri 41-35.
Corn finished with 13 points, three steals and one steal. Caviness had 12 points, six steals and two assists, Flannery scored eight points. Mahan, Kelsey Morgan and Taylor all scored two points. Tabeling had two points and four rebounds. Marcum grabbed five rebounds and had three steals.
