KALAMAZOO — Grace VanSlooten and Julia Ayrault each had double-doubles while helping the Michigan State women’s basketball team pass its first road test of the season.

VanSlooten and Ayrault recorded their double-doubles for the Spartans in a 79-42 victory over Western Michigan at University Arena on Sunday.

VanSlooten had 18 points and 13 rebounds while picking up the first double-double of her MSU career. She was 7-of-10 from the field and added four assists while playing 25 minutes. Ayrault had 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting and had 10 rebounds.

Jocelyn Tate was the other player in double figures for the Spartans (5-0) and finished with 11 points.

MSU had a 23-8 advantage after the opening quarter and led 46-21 at halftime

Western Michigan was led by Pewamo-Westphalia graduate Hannah Spitzley, who scored a team-high 15 points.
