Great Britain’s Eva Okaro Taking Talents to NCAA and University of Texas

For the second time this week, a rising European sprint star has revealed her decision to compete collegiately in the United States. Following the announcement that Italian Sara Curtis will enroll at the University of Virginia, British star Eva Okaro has committed to the University of Texas. Okaro made her announcement on Instagram while competing at the British Trials for this summer’s World Championships.

Okaro is best known for her ability in the sprint-freestyle events and skill in the 50 butterfly and 100 butterfly. She will provide an immediate boost for Texas, which finished third in the team standings at last month’s NCAA Championships. Okaro will also strengthen the Longhorns’ relays for coach Carol Capitani.

Okaro is the World Junior record-holder in the short-course version of the 50-meter freestyle, having posted a time of 23.66 in the event at last year’s World Short Course Championships in Budapest. At the British Championships, which wrap up on Sunday in London, Okaro has already won the 50 freestyle and 50 butterfly, and finished tied for third in the 100 fly.

Before heading to Austin to begin her NCAA career, Okaro will represent Great Britain at this summer’s World Championships in Singapore.
