Greeneville star Trey Thompson is taking an official visit to Tennessee basketball, Thompson told Knox News.
Thompson, a four-star forward in the 2026 recruiting class, is visiting from June 7-9. The 6-foot-8, 220-pound forward is the No. 131 prospect in the 247Sports Composite and the No. 4 recruit in Tennessee.

Tennessee offered Thompson a scholarship in September 2024. His recruitment gained momentum this summer with the likes of UConn, Indiana, Kansas, Stanford and Virginia offering him a scholarship.
Tennessee does not have any players committed yet in the early stages of the 2026 recruiting class.
UT signed five players in the 2025 class, which ranked No. 13 nationally.
Five-star prospect Nate Ament is the highest-ranked recruit in program history as the No. 4 recruit nationally. Tennessee signed four-star forward DeWayne Brown II and four-star guard Amari Evans in November. Three-star guard Troy Henderson signed in April. Henderson and Ament played AAU basketball together with Team Loaded 17U. French guard Clarence Massmaba signed with UT in late April.

Vols transfer guard Ja’Kobi Gillespie is a Greeneville native. Gillespie transferred to Tennessee from Maryland this offseason. He spent his first two years at Belmont.
Tennessee has 12 players on its roster for the 2025-26 season. Its only senior post player is forward Felix Okpara, while Cade Phillips, JP Estrella, Jaylen Carey and Brown all have eligibility beyond next season. Amaree Abram and Gillespie are senior guards.
