Day 3 of the 2025 TYR Pro Swim Series stop in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, started with some strong swims by some star power.
The Friday prelims consisted of the men’s and women’s 200 freestyle, 50 breaststroke, 50 butterfly, 200 backstroke and 400 IM.
TYR Pro Swim Series: Women’s 200 Freestyle
Olympic champion Katie Ledecky cruised to the top seed in the 200 free. She got to the wall in 1:56.44 and was nearly two seconds ahead of the field.
Fellow Olympians Erin Gemmell (1:58.15), Claire Weinstein (1:58.29) and Alex Shackell (1:58.62) followed, with Isabel Ivey also breaking 1:59 and taking the fifth seed in 1:58.92.
Rounding out the top 8 were Leah Hayes (1:59.11), Olympic 100 free champion Simone Manuel (1:59.25) and Rylee Erisman (1:59.31).
TYR Pro Swim Series: Men’s 200 Freestyle
This event had an international flavor as Leon Marchand grabbed the eighth seed in 1:48.05 to reach the finals.
Tomas Koski was the fastest in the men’s 200 free prelims, reaching the wall in 1:46.43.
Tomas Kavikonis was next at 1:47.50, ahead of Jack Dahlgren (1:47.81) and U.S Olympians Carson Foster (1:47.87), Luke Hobson (1:47.94) and Aaron Shackell (1:48.01).
TYR Pro Swim Series: Women’s 50 Breaststroke
The big names took care of business in the 50 breaststroke at Olympic champion Lilly King grabbed the top seed with a swim of 30.70.
Olympian Emma Weber took the second seed in 30.87, ahead of Skyler Smith (30.95) and Olympian Alex Walsh (30.97).
Shona Branton and Lucy Thomas tied for the fifth seed in 31.27, while Sophie Angus (31.29) and Caroline Larsen (31.40) rounded out the top 8.
Gabrielle Rose, 47, took the 10th spot to reach the B final in 31.63.
TYR Pro Swim Series: Men’s 50 Breaststroke
Olympian Michael Andrew, the American record-holder in the event, grabbed the top seed in 27.02, a half second off his top mark.
Mikel Schreuders took the second seed in 27.38, followed by Pavel Romanov (27.46), Aleksas Savickas (27.52), Campbell McKean (27.53), Evgenii Somov (27.62), Denis Petrashov (27.63) and Noel de Geus (27.72).
TYR Pro Swim Series: Women’s 50 Butterfly
Olympian Gretchen Walsh was just four hundredths of a second off her American record in the 50 butterfly.
Walsh took the top seed in the event with a 25.15 swim. Her best time was 25.11 in 2023, which could be in danger tonight.
Olympic teammate Kate Douglass took the second seed in 25.71, just ahead of another Olympian, Regan Smith (26.04).
Charlotte Crush took the fourth see din 26.38, followed by Beata Nelson (26.45), Mena Boardman (26.56), Lismar Lyon (26.58) and Canadian Olympian Penny Oleksiak (26.61).
Olympic champion Torri Huske took the ninth seed in 26.73 and Canadian Olympic champion Kylie Masse was 10th (27.00).
TYR Pro Swim Series: Men’s 50 Butterfly
Trinidad and Tobago Olympian Dylan Carter continues to impress in the sprint events.
He got to the wall in 23.30 to take the top seed in the 50 fly.
Canadian Olympian Ilya Kharun took the second seed just two hundredths of a second behind Carter in 23.32.
U.S. Olympians Shaine Casas and Michael Andrew tied for the third seed in 23.45, Andrew having just come off the 50 breast minutes earlier.
Caeleb Dressel took the fifth seed in 23.58, followed by Kamal Muhammad (23.83), Quintin McCarty (24.03) and Olympian Chris Guiliano (24.05).
TYR Pro Swim Series: Women’s 200 Backstroke
Olympians Regan Smith and Summer McIntosh began their showdown with strong swims in the 200 backstroke prelims.
Smith took the top seed in 2:08.65, while McIntosh was just behind in 2:08.91, setting up an intriguing head-to-head final.
Charlotte Crush took the third seed in 2:09.76, ahead of Audrey Derivaux (2:11.01), Claire Curzan (2:11.19), Sadie Buckley (2:11.35), Rhyan White (2:11.82) and Erica Pelaez (2:11.89)
TYR Pro Swim Series: Men’s 200 Backstroke
Olympic champion Hubert Kos was the lone swimmer in the field to break 2 minutes during prelims of the 100 backstroke.
Kos led from start to finish and touched the wall in 1:58.54.
Carson Foster took the second seed in 2:00.17, ahead of Gavin Keogh (2:00.46), Jack Harvey (2:01.05), Jack Aikins (2:01.54), Yeziel Morales (2:01.58), Aiden Norman (2:01.61) and Caleb Maldari (2:02.01).
TYR Pro Swim Series: Women’s 400 IM
Olympian Emma Weyant and U.S. national team member Leah Hayes were the two swimmers to reach 4:40s in the prelims of the 400 IM.
Weyant got to the wall in 4:40.43 and Hayes was just behind in 4:40.70.
Ellen Walshe took the third spot in 4:42.10, ahead of Katie Grimes (4:43.50).
Kayla Han took the fifth seed in 4:45.11, followed by Eleanor Sun (4:45.59), Caroline Bricker (4:46.21) and Helena Rosendahl Bach (4:46.82).
TYR Pro Swim Series: Men’s 400 IM
World record holder Leon Marchand got to the wall in 4:21.04 during prelims of the 400 IM.
The time was good enough for the second seed behind Bobby Finke (4:20.34).
Marchand holds the world record in 4:02.50 and presumably has plenty more in the tank for finals after swimming two events during prelims.
Tommy Bried took the third seed in 4:21.52, followed by Grant Sanders (4:23.36), Anthony Dornoff (4:23.99), Noah Cakir (4:24.11), Luke Ellis (4:24.14) and Kevin Vargas (4:24.17).
