General manager and executive VP of basketball operations Zach Kleiman admitted on Monday that the Memphis Grizzlies still have significant work ahead before they can truly compete at a high level.

Even so, he expressed confidence in the core pieces already on the roster, along with the draft capital the team has accumulated to continue shaping the squad.

“I’m confident that this is going to be a group people can rally around and be excited about going forward,” he said, per Damichael Cole of The Memphis Commercial Appeal.

“I think if you zoom all the way out and look at the group of young players we already have, coupled with having as many first-round assets as nearly anyone in the league, it’s going to speak for itself soon.”

Following yet another season disrupted by injuries, Kleiman also pointed out that the organization will evaluate its internal processes during the offseason to see if improvements can be made to keep players healthier and more consistently available.

As reported by Cole, this review will be part of their usual approach to refining team operations.

“Every season, we look at the entire operation and make sure we’re doing what we can to put the group in the best possible spot going into the following season,” he said.

“We’ll do that this offseason just like we always do.”
