Bracing yourself for a slam can be more dangerous than just handling the impact itself. Unfortunately, Damien Blotzke found that out the hard way.
Friday evening on the prelims of CFFC 152, Blotzke (0-1) met Chris Hayes in a battle of middleweights making their pro debut. Hayes (1-0) got a hold of Blotzke close to the fence line, lifted and slammed his opponent to the canvas, landing beautifully in side control. Hayes immediately began raining down elbows, but Blotzke immediately tapped out after hitting the canvas.

It turns out Blotzke’s arm bent in ways it’s not intended to after bracing for the fall. Hayes didn’t realize it because it was the arm underneath him, but when the referee stepped in, he immediately backed off.
That’s one hell of a way to win your debut if you’re Hayes, but on the flip side, Blotzke’s first pro fight result is certainly a memory he’ll carry with him forever.
