DULUTH, GA — Notre Dame guard Hannah Hidalgo broke another record on Thursday, during the second round of the ACC Tournament.
Hildago, who won back-to-back ACC Player of the Year and ACC Defensive Player of the Year awards this week, added to her stellar resume at Notre Dame by breaking the ACC single-season steals record. On Thursday, during the Fighting Irish’s 69-54 win over Miami, Hidalgo’s five steals helped her surpass Donna Holt (164) for the most steals in a single season, a record that stood since 1987. Hildago, who also leads the country in steals, now has 167 takeaways.

“Hannah Hidalgo is one of the best players in the country, and I thought she showed that today,” Miami head coach Tricia Cullop said. “She was on fire. She’s a tremendous defensive player, as well.”
“That’s a huge accomplishment,” Notre Dame head coach Niele Ivey said of Hidalgo’s record.
“[Hannah Hidalgo’s] broken every record, almost, especially at Notre Dame. Breaking the ACC single steals record is phenomenal. She’s just having a phenomenal season. She’s just relentless. She loves to play defense. That’s her superpower. She brings her all defensively, and she does a great job … But she’s been playing amazing, and I’m just really proud of her.”
Hidalgo has a chance add to her single-season record the longer Notre Dame plays in the ACC Tournament and NCAA Tournament.

Her 167 steals put her within reach of the national single-season record, which belongs to Lamar University’s Chastadie Barrs. She had 192 steals during the 2018-19 season.
Notre Dame advances to the quarterfinal round of the ACC Tournament on Friday, where it will play No. 4 NC State (1:30 p.m. ET, ACC Network).
