Former Alabama football coach Nick Saban isn’t a believer in Vanderbilt football. At least he isn’t when it comes to picking the Commodores to win big games.
Saban picked No. 10 LSU to beat No. 18 Vanderbilt on Oct. 18 during College GameDay. That led Pat McAfee, one of the College GameDay hosts, to ask his colleague: “Have you ever picked Vandy?”

“Excuse me,” Saban said. “I don’t think so. You know, it’s just hard for me to recognize the fact they have elevated their program the way they have after so many years in the SEC when they were an easy out.”
LSU plays Vanderbilt at FirstBank Stadium with kickoff at 11 a.m. The game is on ABC.
“They are not an easy out. But it’s harder for me to digest that.”
You might recall that Saban mentioned how easy Vanderbilt was to beat a year ago before Vanderbilt beat Alabama in 2024.
Vanderbilt and LSU both entered the game 5-1. The winner becomes bowl eligible with each having five games left after this contest. The winner also will remain in the conversation to receive a berth in the College Football Playoff.
