Hawks, head coach Quin Snyder reportedly agree to multi-year contract extension

The Atlanta Hawks believe in head coach Quin Snyder. After two straight middling years, the Hawks showed plenty of improvement during the 2025-25 NBA season, making the playoffs for the first time since the 2022-23 season.

As a result, the team reportedly agreed to a multi-year extension with the head coach Monday, according to ESPN.

The deal comes after Snyder led the team to a 46-36 record last season. It was the team’s first winning season since 2021-22, when the team finished four games over .500.

It also marks the first time since Snyder was hired by the team that he posted a winning record. Snyder was originally brought on at the end of the 2022-23 NBA season. He led the team to a 10-11 record down the stretch and watched as the team fell to the higher-seeded Boston Celtics in the first round of the playoffs.

The Hawks struggled the next two years under Snyder, with the head coach posting a 76-88 record over that stretch. But things turned around during the 2025-26 season, putting the Hawks in a much better spot moving forward.

Despite the Hawks’ regular-season success, the team failed to advance past the New York Knicks in the first round of the playoffs. The Hawks did manage to win two games in the series, something no other team has done against the Knicks this postseason.

Prior to coaching the Hawks, Snyder spent eight years coaching the Utah Jazz. He experienced a fair amount of success with the franchise, making the playoffs six times and reaching the conference semifinals in three of those appearances.
