The Miami Heat are among the teams exploring trade possibilities for four-time All-Star guard Trae Young as the Washington Wizards evaluate their future direction, according to Jake Fischer.
Fischer reported on Monday, June 15, that while the expectation is still that Young and Washington could reach a longer-term agreement, several teams — including Miami — are considering ways to acquire the 27-year-old point guard. The Wizards’ decision is tied to their upcoming choice with the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.
Washington holds the top selection in a draft class featuring prospects such as AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson and Cameron Boozer. The franchise finished the 2025-26 season with a 17-65 record, the worst mark in the Eastern Conference.
Young arrived in Washington after a trade on January 9, when the Atlanta Hawks sent him to the Wizards in exchange for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert. The move ended Young’s long run as Atlanta’s primary offensive engine.
The guard averaged 17.9 points and 8.0 assists in 15 games between Atlanta and Washington during the 2025-26 season, while shooting 45.8% from the field and 33.8% from three-point range. His numbers were affected by a smaller role after the trade, as he averaged 25.6 minutes per game compared with his previous season average of 36.0 minutes.
Over his eight-year NBA career, Young has averaged 25.1 points and 9.8 assists in 498 games. He has recorded multiple seasons averaging more than 25 points and 10 assists, including a 2022-23 campaign where he posted 26.2 points and 10.2 assists per game.
Miami’s interest comes while the Heat are also pursuing a major trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo. The franchise holds the No. 13 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft and finished the 2025-26 regular season 43-39, earning a play-in spot in the Eastern Conference.
A potential Young move would give Miami another high-level creator alongside its existing core. Young has been one of the league’s most prolific pick-and-roll guards, but his contract situation remains a key factor. He currently holds a player option worth $49 million for the 2026-27 season.
The Heat’s interest depends on how Washington approaches its rebuild. If the Wizards prioritize building around their No. 1 pick, they could explore different directions with Young, while a long-term agreement would likely remove him from the trade market.
