Ole Miss women’s basketball signee Lauren Jacobs of Heathwood Hall has been named the Gatorade South Carolina girls basketball player of the year for the 2024-25 season.
The 5-foot-9 point guard averaged 25.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.7 steals and 2.4 assists in her senior season and led Heathwood (17-4) to the SCISA Class 4A state semifinals.
She committed to Ole Miss on Sept. 14, choosing the Rebels over Dawn Staley’s South Carolina women’s basketball team, which was in her top 10.
Heathwood Hall Episcopal School is located in Columbia and is where former Gamecocks star A’ja Wilson played. Wilson was named South Carolina’s Gatorade Player of the Year in 2014.
Jacobs was named the No. 83 recruit by ESPN’s rankings. She is a four-time state champion and two-time SCISA Player of the Year.
“Lauren is a fantastic athlete and an even better person,” said Heathwood Hall coach Brionna Zimmerman in a news release. “She is a strong student and has been accepted into the National Honor Society. She’s also led our team by example, both on and off the court.”
The South Carolina girls basketball player of the year in 2022-23 and 2023-24 was Joyce Edwards (Camden High) who is now a freshman leading Staley’s team and the year prior was now junior for South Carolina, Ashlyn Watkins (2021-22, Cardinal Newman School).
