After acquiring Coby White in a trade, Charlotte Hornets GM Jeff Peterson made it clear he viewed the move as a long-term investment. He reiterated that stance during his end-of-season media session on Monday.

“Like I said when we traded for Coby, we envisioned him as somebody who’s going to be with the Hornets for a long time,” Peterson said about re-signing White.

“He embodies what we’re about in terms of just of course on the court he’s a really, really good player. But the human being, his approach, his professionalism … I’m just happy for him what he’s been able to accomplish in this short amount of time.

“I’m excited to see what this offseason looks like. He gets a full off season with us and then going into next season as well.”

White is scheduled to hit unrestricted free agency on July 1.

Charlotte originally sent Collin Sexton and three second-round picks in the deal to land him at the trade deadline, though that package was later adjusted to two second-rounders after the team learned White was dealing with a left calf issue.

During his 21 appearances with the Hornets, White averaged 15.6 points in 19.4 minutes per game coming off the bench.

The veteran guard shot 46.1% from the field and knocked down 39.1% of his 5.2 attempts per game from beyond the arc.
