Now sitting in ninth place in the Eastern Conference, the Charlotte Hornets are still fighting for a playoff spot in a crowded race, but their turnaround has been notable.
After an 11-23 start, Charlotte has gone 32-14 since January 3, fueled by the development of young players like Brandon Miller, Kon Knueppel, Moussa Diabate, Sion James, and Ryan Kalkbrenner.
With that internal growth, the Hornets president of basketball operations Jeff Peterson was asked whether the team might look to upgrade the roster via trade this offseason.
“I think there’s a lot of variables that go into that,” he told Roderick Boone of The Charlotte Observer. “I think sometimes people think trades are easy. They’re not. You’re dealing with another team, they have to want your player or want to trade that player that you may want.
“Salary’s got a match. There’s just a ton of variables at stake. So, it just kind of depends on which team you’re dealing with or what not, what the market is.
“I certainly don’t want to be in the business of overpaying for a player at this point. There could be a point where you have to do that. It’s not an exact science. You’re certainly going to get something wrong.
“But you’ve got to be pretty sure, the confidence interval has to be high if you’re going to put all your chips in and go get a player.”
