How many SEC teams made the new USA TODAY Sport Coaches Poll?

by

The Oklahoma Sooners men’s basketball team isn’t ranked in the newest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, but several SEC teams are.

Porter Moser’s team had a good start to the 2024-2025 season but have seen the wheels fall off once they’ve hit conference play. A total of eight teams from the SEC are in the Top 25, with each of the top four spots occupied by the conference.

Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Kentucky, Missouri, and Ole Miss all made the rankings, while Mississippi State also received more votes than anyone not ranked. Auburn lost its first game in SEC play to Florida, who comes in at No. 3 in the nation. Alabama moved up to No. 1 and have won six in a row. They’ll play Texas on Tuesday before a pivotal in-state showdown against the Auburn Tigers on Saturday. That game will feature the No. 1 and 2 teams in the Coaches Poll and the AP Poll this week, with Auburn maintaining the top spot in the AP Top 25. The two schools split the first place votes, with Auburn earning 16 of the top votes from the coaches and Alabama pulling in 15.

The Sooners have won just three league games after a strong nonconference performance. Their most recent loss came on Saturday against Tennessee at home. Oklahoma is 13th in the SEC and will visit Missouri in their next game on Wednesday. It’s a pivotal road matchup against a top 25 team. If the Sooners can pull off the upset win, it’ll help their NCAA Tournament resume.
