LSU football just landed the No. 1 recruit in college football, per ESPN’s rankings. Five-star defensive tackle Lamar Brown is staying home to play for the Tigers. Brown is a Baton Rouge native who plays high school football at University Lab, just a short drive from Tiger Stadium.
For months, many assumed the race for Brown was between LSU and Texas A&M, but Miami and Texas were included in Brown’s final four. Ultimately, LSU beat out Mike Elko’s Texas A&M staff for Brown’s services.

Brown is the 15th commit to join LSU’s class. Of those 15, three are five-stars. Brown joins defensive tackle Richard Anderson and wide receiver Tristen Keys at the top of the class. With Brown aboard, LSU has a chance at the No. 1 overall class in college football.
Brown’s commitment sent waves through the recruiting industry. Here’s how social media reacted to the news, which was televised live on ESPN2.
Moments before Brown committed, LSU defensive coordinator Blake Baker took to social media to post the signature “Here Come The Tigers!” message.
LSU senior associate AD Austin Thomas posted shortly after Brown’s commitment, flexing on how LSU offers athletes a chance to grow their platform.
As usual, Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett had a graphic cooked up.
Grace Raynor of The New York Times called it “one of Brian Kelly’s biggest recruiting wins of his career.”
