How to watch college football with Fubo amid Disney-DirecTV dispute

by

DirecTV customers were met with an unpleasant surprise when it came to Week 1 of the college football season: a blackout, one that involves all Disney-owned channels (including the ESPN family of networks).

That has left DirecTV customers wondering how to watch college football in Week 2 and beyond, especially considering how much of the sport ABC, ESPN and more cover.

Though DirecTV and Disney are still disputing carrier fees (causing the former to drop all Disney-owned channels on its service), there are other ways for college football fans to watch games, at least until a resolution is reached. And, as is increasingly becoming the case, the answer involves streaming.

With that, here’s how DirecTV fans can watch college football with Fubo.

What channels are blacked out on DirecTV?

All Disney-owned channels are blacked out on DirecTV. For college football fans, that means games cast on ABC (in certain markets) and the ESPN family of networks (including the ACC and SEC networks) will be blacked out.

Those include:

  • ESPN

  • ESPN2

  • ESPNU

  • ESPNews

  • ACC Network

  • SEC Network

The blackout also includes ABC stations in markets across the country in which ABC owns the station. That means any customers in the following markets won’t be able to watch ABC:

  • Chicago

  • Houston

  • Los Angeles

  • New York

  • Philadelphia

  • Raleigh-Durham (N.C.)

  • San Francisco Bay Area

  • Fresno-Visalia (Calif.)

How to watch college football with Fubo

Fubo is one of several streaming options DirecTV customers may consider to watch college football. The base package carries ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 and the ACC Network, though fans hoping to watch college football games on the SEC Network, ESPNU or ESPNews will have to pay extra for an “Elite” package.

Fubo also offers a free trial.

How much does Fubo cost?

Fans interested in purchasing a Fubo account have several options available to them, though Fubo’s two cheapest options offer partial or full coverage of Disney-owned channels that cover college football, respectively.

Fubo’s cheapest option is its “Pro” plan, which starts at $49.99 a month before moving to $79.99 a month thereafter. This option includes ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 and the ACC Network.

Another option is Fubo’s “Elite with Sports Plus” plan, which starts at $69.99 for the first month and moves to $99.99 afterward. It includes ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 and the ACC Network — the same channels as in the “Pro” package — but also includes ESPNU, ESPNews and the SEC Network.
